Demolition of a 786 square feet room on the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church campus is scheduled to start the week of October 26, 2020. Once the room is removed, it will be enclosed by fencing until the next phase of the project. We anticipate the demolition to be completed by no later than November 20, 2020.
The City of San Jose’s construction working hours are Monday-Friday between 7:00am-6:00pm and Saturday between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Regular work site hours for this project will be 7:00am to 3:30pm Monday-Friday unless a makeup date is needed due to rain or a special activity. If a makeup date is needed, then overtime hours or Saturdays will be worked in accordance with the City of San Jose’s policy on working hours.
Furthermore, during the hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm, there will be a sidewalk and lane/parking closure along the Richmond Ave. portion of the property. A traffic control personnel will manage the traffic on the open lane along Richmond Ave. The lanes will be reopened after work has been completed for the day.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during construction.

We received valuable community feedback on the proposed affordable housing community at the June 2019 Community meeting and at various other opportunities that we have had to meet with all of you. The feedback we received was important in developing the proposed community’s design. Although our plan was to hold a follow-up community meeting in early 2020, the COVID-19 outbreak created challenges that prevented us from this typical form of outreach. Like many of you, we are implementing all forms of social distancing as required by our local and state government.
However, MidPen Housing and the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of San Jose have created a video to provide you with a virtual update. We look forward to continuing our conversations with you in this time even as we are sheltering in place.
If you would like to receive updates on the proposed affordable housing development, or if you have any inquiries and would like to contact us, please visit our Participate page to sign up for our mailing list.
On June 11, 2019, MidPen and Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church held the first public meeting with neighbors. The goal of this meeting was to introduce MidPen and the Lutheran Church, as well as the proposal to build approximately 107 units of permanent supportive housing on an underutilized portion of the Church’s parcel.
This meeting came after a number of individual meetings with neighborhood association leaders, neighbors, and current users of the church facility.
We are grateful for the feedback that we received during that meeting and will continue to work on incorporating the feedback into the proposed design for the community. A summary of the notes taken during the meeting is available here: june_11_2019_meeting_notes.pdf
